Internships

Lahai Health’s counseling program seeks to provide a private practice model of therapy within a community mental health setting. Our twofold mission is to train graduate students within a clinical environment and to provide quality mental health counseling to an underserved population. For interns we introduce them to a diverse client population with quality clinical supervision, smaller case loads and help them begin to counsel from a psychodynamic modality. To clients we are one of the few community mental health programs in the region that provides sustained, weekly counseling within psychodynamic approach, with professionally trained, graduate level counselors.

Description of Sites

The Lahai Health is an interdisciplinary clinic providing low-cost medical, dental and counseling services to the community. We have two counseling clinic locations in Lynnwood and North Seattle. Our clients tend to be adults who struggle with basic mental health disorders and common social concerns. Our counseling department stems from a psychodynamic orientation and limits the number of clients in order to provide sustained weekly counseling (typically 6 months to a year in duration). Interns at the clinic work with their clients in ongoing weekly sessions but also gain the experience of working alongside our medical staff in coordination of their clients. Interns are supervised in group and individual supervision. We are not a crisis clinic so our clientele are those who are generally suited for weekly therapy. Robert Deeble / Folktown Counseling LLC is a private practice in Ballard contracted by Lahai Health to create, run and supervise their counseling program. Folktown utilizes a psychodynamic/relational modality and supervises from that perspective.

Coordination of Sites

The Lahai Health internship occurs in Lynnwood hosted at the Community Life Center and in North Seattle hosted by North Seattle Church in Haller Lake. Both sites have onsite medical clinics that allow an agency setting for interns with access to our medical staff.

Hours: Interns at the clinic serve Total 10-15 hours at the clinic per week. This includes (5-10 hrs) direct client hours per week which includes (1 hr) supervision group and (1 hr) individual supervision hour, a (1 hr) pre-clinic meeting with our medical team and admin and documentation (3-5 hrs) per week.

This allows counselors more access to medical staff in order to discuss concerns they are having with their clients. While there is some flexibility for counselors to manage hours around various work schedules we ask that they try to build their hours around the following time frames. Counselors plan on being at the clinic between 15 hours a week. Hours are flexible with the exception of the following
